My Bio
My creative journey began in the toolmaking trade in Sydney where I was fortunate to be involved in the transition from traditional methods of the manufacture to computer aided manufacture. Due to the enormous cost of computer systems and the machine tool technology at that time I had the good fortune to be involved in the design of mass produced products from the initial concept stage of the design all the way through to the generation of the computer programs to machine the moulds and dies used to produce the final products. It was at this early stage of the use of computers that I found the opportunity to develop my interest in Fractal geometry.
Fractal geometry was first discovered by the ingenuous mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot. Benoit worked primarily with the graphical forms of geometry to solve problems as aposed to numerical based formula. This I found incredibly inspiring, to look at the world in terms of the quality of the relationship of numbers rather than its accumulated totalities lit my mind and warmed my heart, the more I looked at the world especially the natural world in this way the more I could see the incredibly beautyfull structures born of these simple relationship's.
The branch of a tree to the whole tree, the ripples in a tidal pond to waves in the sea, the edge of a pond to the coastline of the land and sea and in a less visual but more spiritual sense the attitude of our children to the actions and thoughts of us the adults. All these are reflections but not just direct reflections for with each reflection there is new and utterly unique perspective created, and so we have a new sense of what life could be, not just a race to the top over the backs of each other but a dance of incredible beauty spiralling both outwardly and inwardly to the unknown.
It is through the combination of both of these seemingly diverging disciplines, the well proven
dependable but creatively stifling world of the machine and the infinitely beautyfull natural world reflected in fractals that I base my sculptures and prints. It is my hope to illuminate a path from the lofty world we find our selves atop this technological mountain back to the life giving waters flowing along the rivers of life that is waiting for us all in our relationship to each other and our world.
